Fred Koler

Funeral Services for Fred Koler, 87, of Bainbridge, will be held Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gerald Little officiating.

Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens with T.J. Lambert, Hardy Dollar, Ken Adams, David Cottles, Mike Barber and David Green serving as active pallbearers.

Born Nov. 16, 1922, in Baltimore, Md., Mr. Koler died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

Mr. Koler was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a seaman from 1944 to 1946 and as an Airman in the Navy Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion Post 62 and the Elks Club.

Mr. Koler worked with Pantry Pride foods for 28 years and was a warehouse manager and buyer for Stanley Institutional Foods for 12 years. He was a member of the Bainbridge First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Koler had lived in Decatur County for the past 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Dasie “Dee” Carpenter Koler of Bainbridge; one son, Russell E. Smedley Jr. of Daleville, Ala.; one daughter, Linda Harrison of Climax; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Cox-Ware Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
