Lady Bobcats edge Lady Cats

Alyssa Walton hit a shot with just 2.2 seconds remaining Thursday night to give the Early County High School Lady Bobcats a 58-56 preseason scrimmage victory over the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats at the new Bainbridge High School gymnasium.
Lady Cat senior Alexis Burke, who led all scorers with 31 points, had pulled the Lady Cats even at 56-56 when she hit a bucket in the lane with 5.5 seconds left.
The Lady Cats tried to get the ball to Burke with one second remaining, but the ball was tipped away.
The Lady Cats will begin regular season play Monday and Tuesday in Valdosta when they take on the Lowndes County High School Lady Trojans and homestanding Lowndes County High School Vikettes in the Lowndes County High School Invitational.
They will play the Lady Trojans Monday at 4:30 p.m. and the Vikettes Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Cats took control of their preseason scrimmage with the Lady Bobcats early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. Burke put them quickly ahead 3-0 when she hit a layup off the left glass at the 7:48 mark and a free throw at the 6:47 mark.
Bria Harris made it 5-0 when she banged home a layup off the right glass at the 6:12 mark. A three-point jumper by April Thomas completed the early 8-0 run.
Walton, who finished with 11 points, broke the scoring ice for the Lady Bobcats with a two-point jumper at the 4:56 mark to cut it to 8-2.
Thomas countered with a three-point jumper from the left side to push the advantage to nine, at 11-2. They led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bobcats took their first lead, 26-25, when Shay Williams, who finished with 8 points, hit a layup off the right glass with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter. They led 47-41 after three quarters.
