FFA, 4-H show champion fair gilts

John Hanna and Taylor Barber showed the grand and reserve champion Yorkshire gilts at the Decatur County Fall Festival and Fair breeding gilts show held Nov. 3.

Hanna is the son of Mark and Deanne Hanna and a member of the Seminole County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter. Barber is the daughter of Jeff and Leslie Barber and a member of the Decatur County 4-H Club.

Jason Long, son of Phil and Diane Long and a member of the Bainbridge High School FFA, showed a Duroc, which was the champion other breeds gilt.

Daniel Allen’s Hampshire was the reserve champion other breeds gilt. He is the son of Danny and Sheila Allen, and a member of the Miller County High School FFA. Allen also had the third-place other breeds gilt.

Jacey Cox, daughter of Jason and Jennifer Cox and a member of the Miller County 4-H Club, showed the champion commercial gilt.

Alex Long, son of Steve and Amy Long and a member of the Bainbridge High School FFA, showed the reserve champion commercial gilt.

Showmanship winners Tuesday night included Taylor Barber in the Pre-Club division; Griffin Long, son of Phil and Diane Long, in the junior division; Megan Kelley, daughter of Chris and Lisa Kelley, in the intermediate division; and John Hanna in the senior division.

There were three commercial gilts classes.

In the first, Jacey Cox was first, Heath Parker was second, Stephen Burton was third, and Tucker Brock was fourth and fifth.

In the second commercial gilts class, Ivy Heard was first, Griffin Long was second, Hudson Hanna was third, Parker Heard was fourth, Tucker Brock was fifth and Audrey Anderson was sixth.

In the third commercial gilts class, Jacey Cox was first, Alex Long was second, Justin Odom was third, Parker Heard was fourth and Cabe Rathel was fifth.

There were 20 exhibitors in the show, which was judged by Dennis Kendrick, vocational agriculture teacher at Turner County High School in Ashburn.

In the other breeds gilt class, Jason Long’s Duroc was first, Daniel Allen’s Hampshire was second and his Spot breed was third.

In the February Yorkshire gilts class, Taylor Barber was first, Jason Long was second, Makenzie Cannington was third, Stephen Burton was fourth and Megan Kelley was fifth.

In the March Yorkshire gilts class, John Hanna was first, Megan Kelley was second, Justin Odom was third and Jimmy Fackler was fourth.

Macy Phillips had the winning April Yorkshire gilt.

In second through fourth place behind Taylor Barber in the Pre-Club showmanship division were Jacey Cox, MacKenzie Cannington and Chloe Vuncannon. Taking second and third behind Griffin Long in Junior showmanship were Heath Parker and Jimmy Fackler.

Capturing second through fifth places behind Megan Kelley in the Intermediate showmanship division were Jason Long, Tucker Brock, Cabe Rathel and Audrey Anderson.

Taking second through eighth behind John Hanna in the senior showmanship division were Macy Phillips, Ivy Heard, Parker Heard, Stephen Burton, Justin Odom, Alex Long and Daniel Allen.
