Funeral services for Archie Lee George, 89, of Donalsonville, Ga., were held on Monday, Oct. 12, in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Sells officiating.

Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville with Billy Joe Newberry, Winifred Taylor, Charles Brackin and Jerry Mock serving as active pallbearers.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Jan. 7, 1920, Mr. George died on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Donalsonville Hospital.

Mr. George was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Miller County and worked in construction as a heavy machine operator for many years. He served his country in the Army, Air Force and Marines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both of his wives, Eron Ward George and Doris Dykes George; three brothers, Arthur George, Clinton George and Russell George; and two sisters, Hazel Reynolds and Allie Ruth Pomaroy.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
