Funeral services for Herbert L. Boyd, 81, of Brinson, will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Taylor and Rev. William Smith officiating.

Interment will follow at Mount Gilead Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Boyd’s grandsons, James Gilbourn, Chris Boyd, Greg Boyd, Shaun Earnest, Trent Bellflower and Casey Bellflower, serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.

Born Oct. 5, 1927, in Miller County, Ga., Mr. Boyd died on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Boyd was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1946, and retired with more than 43 years of service as a meter reader with Georgia Power. He was a volunteer with Kendrick Volunteer Fire Department and he was an avid gardener. Mr. Boyd was an active member of Mount Gilead Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eudene Vickers Boyd of Brinson; two sons, Randy Boyd of Lakeland, Fla., and Sammy Boyd of Brinson; two daughters, Diane Bellflower of Brinson and Brenda Boyd of Seminole County, Ga.; his sister, Virginia Hatcher of Albany, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
