Rayburn Brooks

Funeral services for Rayburn Lamar Brooks, 79, of Colquitt, Ga., were held Sunday, Sept. 6, at Bellview Free Will Baptist Church in Miller County, Ga., with the Revs. Mike Mounts, Andy Merritt and Bruce Kimbrel officiating.
Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with John Grant, Jason Suggs, Chad Clenney, Rusty Clenney, Richard Barrow, Ben Clenney, Allen Daniels and Kevin Clenney serving as active pallbearers.
Born Sept. 10, 1929, in Etowah County, Ala., Mr. Brooks died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Miller County Hospital in Colquitt.
Mr. Brooks was a member of Bellview Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was owner/operator of Lamar Brooks Auto Parts in Colquitt. During his lifetime, Mr. Brooks served as mayor and city councilman for the City of Colquitt and was a founding director of Peoples South Bank.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gwendolyn Clenney Brooks of Colquitt; a son, Donald Brooks of Colquitt; a daughter, Brenda Wade of Colquitt; a brother, Perry Brooks of Colquitt; two sisters, Clara Nell Heard of Bainbridge and Louise Grant of Colquitt; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
