Ninth-grade Cats down Central 12-8
Damian Bouie ran 60 yards for the winning touchdown in the first half Monday at Thomas County Central High School’s Jackets Nest Stadium, giving the Bainbridge ninth-grade Bearcats a come-from-behind 12-8 victory over the Central ninth-grade Yellow Jackets.
The win improves the ninth-grade Bearcats season record to 2-0.
On Monday, Aug. 31, they defeated the Lee County High School ninth-grade Trojans 16-14 in Leesburg.
Michael Stubbs ran in for both Bearcat touchdowns. The two-point conversions were scored by quarterback B.J. Cheatem and Bouie.
The Bearcats took a 6-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets Monday when Cheatem sneaked in for a first-half touchdown. The Yellow Jackets quickly came back to tie it up 6-6 on a 50-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter. They went ahead briefly 8-6 when they scored the two-point conversion on a sweep around the right side.
Bowie’s late first-half touchdown run put the game away. The ninth-grade Bearcats first home game of the season will be next Monday, Sept. 14, when they host the Cairo High School Syrupmakers at 5 p.m. at Centennial Field.
Defensive line coach Brian McCorkle said the coaching staff is really pleased with the progress of the ninth-grade players.
“The ninth-graders really play hard on offense and defense, “McCorkle said. “They should help us in the future”
