Funeral services for Nellie Jordan Oates, 99, of Thomasville, Ga., were held Sunday, Aug. 23, at Midway Baptist Church in Cairo, Ga., with Dr. Kenneth Cloud and the Rev. Tim VanLandingham officiating.
Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery with Mrs. Oates’ great-grandsons serving as active pallbearers.
Born Oct. 31, 1909, in Decatur County, Ga., Mrs. Oates died on Friday, Aug. 21, at Camellia Gardens in Thomasville, Ga.
She was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Midway Baptist Church. She enjoyed making quilts for her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse F. Oates; brothers, Charlie E. Jordan, Cecil C. Jordan, Pierce Jordan, Lamar Jordan and Herchel Jordan, and a sister, Bennie J. Humphries.
Survivors include her daughter, Vivian O. Thursby of Cairo, Ga.; a sister, Jewell Jordan Prince of Cairo; three grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; and the staff at Camellia Gardens.
Clark Funeral Home in Cairo was in charge of funeral arrangements.
