Senior Denzel Gamble, who helped lead coach Larry Cosby’s 2009 Bainbridge High School Bearcats track team to the Region 1AAAA championship, is in Des Moines, Iowa, this week competing in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics.
The competition began Sunday, Aug. 2, and will conclude Sunday, Aug. 9.
Gamble, who was named an All-Area performer by “The Albany Herald,” is competing with the Capital City Christian Cruisers from Tallahassee, Fla. The Cruisers president is former Florida State University track star Alice Sims.
At the state Class AAAA track meet last spring in Jefferson, Gamble was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, and fifth in the triple jump. He was also a member of the third-place finishing 4-by-400-meter relay team.
