The Beverly Lewis Foundation, founded by a former Decatur County resident, recently donated school supplies to families in the Whigham, Climax and Bainbridge areas.
Beverly Lewis, who lives in South Florida, returned to Decatur County on July 17 bringing a trailer full of school supplies that students in kindergarten through eighth grade may need.
The give-away was held at the Whigham School’s parking lot.
Lewis created the Beverly Lewis Foundation to support children and to give them the tools they need to be successful in school.
Lewis said she made a promise to help others, which she said she intends to keep. She said times are hard for some families, and that those “who have extra should be willing to stand and share with those who do not.” Lewis said this was a lesson she learned from her father, the late Charlie Cunningham Sr., who she dedicated her work to.
