Terry Tate

A funeral service for James Terry Tate, 67, of Bainbridge, will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Harvest Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Malcolm Parker and the Rev. Paul Wade officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Assembly of God Church Cemetery, with Joe Barber, Morris Nichols, Bryan Hall, Edward Deal, Carroll McLendon, and Jared Long serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.

Born September 29, 1941 in Noma, Fla., Mr. Tate passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

Mr. Tate was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1960. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a SMSGT. He was a retired agent with Georgia Alcohol, Tobacco, and Tax Unit with 33 years of service. He was a member of Harvest Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his mother, Agnes Burdeshaw Tate of Bainbridge; his wife of 47 years, Helen Merkison Tate of Bainbridge; his son, Terry Duane Tate of Bainbridge; his daughter, Kim T. Newberry of Iron City, Ga.; two brothers, Randy Tate of Springfield, Mo., and Michael Tate of Venus, Fla.; his sister, Carolyn Alday of Bainbridge; and five grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
