A thunderstorm Thursday afternoon, July 2, caused quite a bit of damage near Climax.

The storm left several trees and power lines down on Phillips Pope and Harrison roads.

Janice May on Carl Cloud Road had a tree come down on her carport. She was not home at the time and the carport probably saved damage to her car.

Lloyd and Myra Seals of Seals’ Upholstery on Antioch Church Road reported several pecan trees down and a broken fence, causing a horse to escape.

On Sykes Mill Road, Ray Boyett had a number of trees down and Gene Ouzts also had trees down in the yard.

The thunderstorms brought high winds and hail was reported by many in the county in the area just south of Climax.

At Bill Reynolds Sports Park in Bainbridge, the roof of a softball/baseball field dugout was ripped from the structure and came to rest against a nearby fence.

Decatur County Fire and Rescue responded to seven trees down in the county as a result of the storm.

The Attapulgus Research Farm reported maximum wind speeds of 32.8 miles per hour.
