Nelson Lewis

A funeral service for Nelson Lewis, 66, of Bainbridge, were held Tuesday, June 30, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Cowart officiating.
Interment followed at Oak City Cemetery with J.L. Ward, Dooly Powell, Harold Pitts, James Register, Kenny Stavely and Eddie Polk serving as active pallbearers.
Born Jan. 13, 1943, in Husser, La., Mr. Nelson died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Donalsonville Hospital.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Loranger (La.) High School and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Georgia National Guard and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Donalsonville, Orion Lodge No. 8 F.& A.M., Hasan Shrine Temple, and Bainbridge Shrine Club. He was an automobile mechanic and the owner of Mr. Fix It. He retired from the maintenance department of Memorial Hospital and Manor in Bainbridge.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Allen.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lynne McDonald Lewis of Bainbridge; his son, the Rev. Tucker A. Lewis of Jesup, Ga.; two daughters, Suzanne Lambert of Bainbridge and Tara Knowles of Donalsonville; two brothers, Welton Lewis and Herbert Lewis, both of Loranger, La.; eleven grandchildren and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
