Moultrie wins 10-and under championship

The Moultrie 10-year-old and under All-Star baseball team shutout the Thomasville 10-year-old and under All-Stars 10-0 Tuesday at Bill Reynolds Sports Park to win the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 3 championship.

Thomasville reached the championship game with a 17-8 Tuesday win over the Bainbridge All-Stars.

Bainbridge had defeated Thomasville 12-4 in the tournament’s opening round on Saturday.

Bainbridge jumped out to an early 3-1 first inning lead over Thomasville on Tuesday. Jimmy Nix walked to start the rally and moved up when Carson Inlow drew a walk.

Nix and Inlow came in when John Griffin Long and Michael Todd Mills got aboard on fielder’s choices.

Big blow of the game for Bainbridge was second-inning home run by Harley Dustin Hodge.

A pitching machine is used in 10-year-old and under All-Star play.

In their 12-4 victory over Thomasville on Saturday, Bainbridge had a nine-run, fourth-inning rally that put the game away. Jerrell Madge started the rally when he reached on an error.

On Monday the Bainbridge All-Stars rolled over the eventual champion Moultrie All- Stars 17-4. They rallied for 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The inning’s first three batters, Jimmy Nix, Carson Inlow and Will Kelley, all connected for solid singles.

In their 10-0 championship game over Thomasville, the Moultrie All-Stars scored six in the fourth and four in the fifth.
