A memorial service for Mrs. Williams Phillips, 68, of Bainbridge, was held Sunday, June 28, at Nelson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with Pastor Freda Williams officiating.
Born Dec. 24, 1940, in Seminole County, Ga., Mrs. Phillips died on June 22, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Mrs. Phillips joined Nelson Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age and was a 1959 alumnus of Hutto High School in Bainbridge. She moved to Hempstead, N.Y., in 1962 and retired from the Brooklyn, N.Y., Board of Education after 20 years.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Phillips; and a brother, Willie Edward Williams.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Gordon of Bainbridge; two sons, Christopher C. Phillips of Maryland and Kenneth S. Phillips of Brooklyn; two brothers, David Williams Jr. of Bainbridge and Albert B. Williams of Americus, Ga.; three sisters, JoAnne W. Mettle of Irvington, N.J., Geneva Herring and Jacqueline Williams, both of Bainbridge; as well as aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
