Funeral services for Doris Whiddon Howell, 90, of Cottondale, Fla., were held Wednesday, June 10, at the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in Marianna, Fla., with the Rev. Bob Edwards officiating.

Interment followed in the cemetery of the First United Methodist Church in Cottondale.

Born June 5, 1919, near Bainbridge, Ga., Mrs. Howell died on Monday, June 8, 2009, at a Florida nursing facility.

Mrs. Howell lived in the Cottondale area for almost 70 years. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Cottondale. During her lifetime, she worked as a nurse, businesswoman, cleric and housewife, and was active in civic organizations.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, William R. “Bill” Howell; three brothers, Murray Whiddon, Ray Whiddon and Willie Whiddon; and three sisters, Corrie Wall, Elise Daniels and Mamie Hull.

Survivors include two brothers, Phillip Whiddon of Bainbridge and Lanier Whiddon of St. Mary’s, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in Marianna, Fla., was in charge of funeral arrangements.
