Funeral services for Karen Broome Sheffield, 60, of Donalsonville, were held Friday, May 29, at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville, Ga., with Dr. Charles O. Walker, Fran McCaskill, Angela Erwin Mobley and Nicki Trawick speaking.

Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville with Brett Guterman, Bret Johnson, Scott Trawick, John Brantley Trawick, Dee Broome, Mark Burkett, Richard Broome, Eric Edmunds and Stanley Mathis serving as active pallbearers.

Born in Donalsonville on Aug. 25, 1948, Mrs. Broome died Monday, May 25, 2009, at her residence. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Donalsonville, and owned and operated kindergartens and daycares for several years.

Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by her parents, Beryl Spooner and Hugh D. Broome Sr., and a brother, John S. Broome.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Sheffield; two sons, Eric Edmunds of Atlanta, Ga., and Justin Edmunds of Donalsonville; three daughters, Michelle Braswell of Ashford, Ala.; Robin Sheffield of Emerson, N.J., and Tracy Atkinson of Thomasville, Ga.; two brothers, Hugh D. Broome and Brantley Broome of Donalsonville; a sister, Anne B. Trawick of Donalsonville; four grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville was in charge of funeral arrangements.
