Chason, Anderson lead golf winners

Juniors Sunnie Chason and Adam Anderson won the Lady Cats and Bearcats academic awards, highlighting Saturday’s Bainbridge High School golf awards banquet at Bainbridge Country Club.

The Lady Cats and Bearcats both finished second in the Region 1AAAA girls and boys tournaments at Fort Benning in Columbus.

The teams, coached by Tom Wheeler, celebrated their strong Region 1AAAA second-place finishes and berths in the state Class AAAA tournament in Dalton.

The girls state Class AAAA championship was won by Northwest Whitfield High School, and the boys state Class AAAA championship was won by Westside of Augusta High School.

“Both of our teams had good seasons and shot some of their best golf at the Region 1AAAA Tournament,” Wheeler said. “We presented plaques in recognition of their great seasons to each of our four Lady Cats and six Bearcats golfers.”

Joining Chason on the Lady Cats team were juniors Nicole Putnal and Jessica Allen, and freshman Heather Fleming.

Bearcats golfers, in addition to Anderson, were juniors Michael Fleming, Tanner Walker, Shaun Gaskins, and seniors Colby Moore and Parks Kirbo.

At the state Class AAAA tournament the Lady Cats, who were led by Chason with a 102, shot 214, and the Bearcats, who were led by Walker with an 85, shot 356.
