Warren “Buddy” Hicks

Funeral services for Dr. Warren Henry “Buddy” Hicks of Opelika, Ala., formerly of Rocky Mount, N.C., were held Thursday, May 7, in the chapel of Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel in Opelika with Dr. Tim Thompson and the Rev. Rick Lane officiating.

Interment followed in the Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika.

Dr. Hicks was president of the Opelika Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award. He was a member with perfect attendance for 57 years. He was co-owner of Tatum Motor Company, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Opelika. He practiced veterinary medicine in New York after graduating from Auburn University in 1943. He volunteered to join the U.S. Army’s Veterinary Corps as a lieutenant in New York where he was stationed. He was discharged in 1946 as a captain.

Dr. Hicks was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Tatum.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Poitevint Hicks of Bainbridge; a stepson, Steve Poitevint of Bainbridge and stepdaughter, Angela Taylor of Macon, Ga.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, Ala., was in charge of arrangements.
