On Feb. 1, the members of the Port City Football Association (PCFA), a local youth football league, held its first fund-raising event that ended with success and a very happy Cairo resident.

Lester Hinson of Cairo was awarded a $200 Wal-Mart gift card after purchasing a raffle ticket.

“This is the first time I have won anything in my life,” said Hinson.

The PCFA will have its first season of free football this year. Teams are open to all children ages 6 through 12 and is free of charge. Along with the traveling football teams, there will also be three cheer squads open to all girls ages 6 through 12. Children will be taught the fundamentals of football and cheer as well as teamwork and leadership skills in a positive Christian environment.

Many local businesses have already made contributions to PCFA and the league is looking forward to serving the community. If you have any questions about the association, contact league President Charles King at (229) 416-5705 or for fund-raising contributions information, contact Treasurer/Fund-raising Director Aleta Griffin at (229) 726-9830.
