Funeral services for Alice Mae Bell, 62, of Donalsonville, Ga., will be Thursday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at Oak City Missionary Baptist Church in Donalsonville with Dr. W.J. Dean officiating.
Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with friends of the family serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Class of 1964 Seminole County Training School.
Born on Jan. 4, 1946, in Seminole County, Ms. Bell died at her residence on Friday, April 17, 2009.
She was a ward clerk at Pinewood Nursing Home in Whigham, Ga. Ms. Bell completed the Medical Assistant program at Riley College and graduated with honors. She was a member of Oak City M.B. Church, where she served on the choir and the usher board.
Ms. Bell played an integral role in organizing the Bells of Joy, which included her sisters, nieces and brother-in-law, which she sang and participated in concerts all across Georgia, Florida and Alabama. She is preceded in death by her father, Philmore Bell Sr.; a brother, Tommy Lee Bell, and a brother-in-law, Michael Williams.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth O. Bell of Donalsonville, Ga.; seven sisters, Grace Lee Bell, Margorie Freeman and Emily Buggs, all of Donalsonville, Evelyn Williams of Dothan, Ala., Essie Crawford of Jakin, Ga., Dr. Rosie Given of Albany, Ga., and Runette Hines of Lithonia, Ga.; three brothers, Apostle Bell Jr. of Colquitt, Ga., Willie Lee Bell and Douglas Bernard Bell, both of Donalsonville, Ga.; a godmother, Carolyn Williams of Miami Garden, Fla.; a goddaughter, Johnissa Wilson of Bainbridge, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Bruton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
