A special salute

U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop made a special presentation Wednesday to the family of a special person who spent a lifetime in service to his God, his country and his fellow man.
The presentation, a certificate of special congressional recognition for outstanding achievement, service and public distinction, was made to the family of the late retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Doyce W. Ariail in recognition of his service to his country and the town of Climax.
Lt. Col. Ariail loved his family and his town and was always there to extend a Christian helping hand when a friend, a neighbor or a perfect stranger were in need.
His patriotism and love of country were unswerving.
He helped coordinate Climax’s Flag Day celebration each year and made sure American flags waved prominently throughout the town on Flag Day and throughout the year.
His love for his dear wife, Ann, his sons, Tom, Chip, Scott and Pat, their wives and his grandchildren was special. Just the mention of their names would bring a huge smile to his face.
Ariail also had a special love for children and a fervent desire to see them succeed. Many young adults, who he believed in and helped as youngsters, are contributing members of society today,
The town of Climax, the Climax United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Methodist Men’s organization, and the Climax Community Club and their annual Swine Time Festival the Saturday after Thanksgiving always had a special place in his heart.
On Swine Time Day, you could always find him coordinating the parking, greeting visitors and making sure they were having a good time.
We salute Lt. Col. Ariail, a devoted Christian, patriot, family man and community leader.
