Funeral services for Charles Faran “Charley” Pittman, of Tallahassee, Fla., were held Thursday, March 19, at the First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla.
Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery in Havana, Fla.
Mr. Pittman was born in Jamieson, Fla., on Jan. 11, 1925. He died on Saturday March 14, 2009, at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House.
Mr. Pittman spent his childhood in the Havana, Fla., area and graduated from the Gadsden High School in Quincy in 1942. While attending the University of Florida, he was called to service in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during World War II in the Army Medical Corps, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He returned to the University of Florida after the war, attending school from 1946-48. In 1952, he opened “Charley’s” retail clothing store in Havana until retiring in 1995 after 46 years self-employed. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Florence, Catherine, Winifred, Janet, Louise and Bertie; and two brothers, Daniel and Albert.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette White McCarty; three daughters, Edie McCarty, Kimberly Rhodes and Charlette Pittman Snuggs; and five grandchildren.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.
