Madea Goes to Jail

This movie, based on Tyler Perry’s successful play, Madea Goes to Jail, had not only me, but also the entire theater in stitches!

Madea (Tyler Perry) finds herself in front of a judge, ONCE AGAIN, but does not get her usual reprieve. This tough judge (Judge Greg Mathis), after reviewing Madea’s extensive criminal record, decides to make an example out of her and sentences her to a 5 to 10 year sentence. This pistol-packing granny is guilty of everything from a high-speed chase with the police to shooting up an out-of-control house party, what a riot!

On a more serious note though, there is a hidden message about love, commitment and friendship in this movie. The engaged, District Attorney Joshua (Derek Luke) is presented with a case involving his childhood friend Candace (played by Keisha Knight Pulliam) who has led a troubled life involving drugs and prostitution since a tragic incident that happened when they were back in college. Joshua blames himself for what happened and tries to make up for his guilt by taking Candace off the streets and helping her kick the habit. You will be shocked to find out what happens when Candace goes back to court for sentencing although I think you will be pleasantly surprised (I know I was) at how the movie ends.
