Stabbing occurs at lounge

On Saturday night, Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fight that resulted in the stabbing of an Attapulgus man at Dowdell’s Pool Hall and Lounge.

When law enforcement officers arrived at the lounge, located at 3850 GA-309, they found 29-year-old Phillip Dewayne Anderson had been stabbed in the his left thigh. EMS were on scene to attended to Anderson’s wound and transport him to Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

Symara Dixon, 22, of Tallahassee, Fla., admitted to stabbing Anderson and was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to incident reports.

The knife used in the stabbing was found behind the tire of a nearby vehicle.

Found contraband

Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Robert Humphrey discovered three small suspected marijuana plants on his hunting property. Humphrey removed the plants and turned them over to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office for destruction, according to incident reports.

On Feb. 27, Captain George Anderson with the Decatur County Correctional Institute turned over a small container of suspected marijuana to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office for destruction.

The container was found by an inmate work crew while working on U.S. 27 South.

GSP update

State Troopers from the Georgia State Patrol’s Colquitt Post investigated 10 traffic crashes during the month of February in Decatur County.

Sgt. First Class Bryan Strickland said the traffic crashes resulted in nine injuries and zero deaths. Strickland said troopers also issued 261 traffic citations which includes 21 arrests for DUI, 91 citations for speeding, 28 seat belt violations and 22 child restraint violations. Troopers also issued 200 warnings.
