Funeral services for M.J. Swicord Jr., 86, of Bainbridge, were held on Thursday, Feb. 26, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stephen L. Webb officiating.

Interment followed at Oak City Cemetery with members of Orion Lodge No. 8 F. & A. M. serving as active pallbearers.

Mr. Swicord was born March 1, 1922 in Bainbridge. He died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge.

He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1938, served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a railroad conductor for Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a member of Orion Lodge No. 8 F&AM, the Bainbridge Shrine Club, Hasan Shrine Temple and First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine “Gerry” Eberhart Swicord.

Survivors include his son, Mike Swicord of Donalsonville; his daughter, Mary Jane McCully of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, John Carroll Swicord of Carrollton, Texas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
