Tennis director enthusiastic

City of Bainbridge tennis director Timothy Thompson began his duties as Bainbridge tennis director with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm on Monday.

“I get more and more excited every time I talk to people in the Bainbridge tennis community,” he said. “I’m kind of feeding off their enthusiasm.”

Immediately before coming to Bainbridge, Thompson was teaching professional at the Country Club of the South in Alfaretta, Ga.

He also spent four years working with the City of Tallahassee tennis programs and four years at Tallahassee’s Golden Eagle Country Club, where he developed the junior tennis program and coordinated camps, clinics and tournaments.

His wife, Helen-Jean, is a nurse.

A native of DeLand, Fla., where his played No. 1 singles and doubles on the DeLand High School tennis team, Thompson is a 2001 graduate of Florida State University with Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.

He is a member of the United States Tennis Registry and a former member of Kiwanis.

Thompson replaces Derek Ameel, who resigned in December, to accept a position as tennis director at his alma mater, Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
