Hormidas Provost

Graveside funeral services for Hormidas William “Provo” Provost, 87, of Climax, were held Monday, Feb. 23, at Piedmont Cemetery in Calvary, Ga., with the Rev. Steve Poppell officiating.
Born March 29, 1921, in West Springfield, Mass., Mr. Provost died on Feb. 20, 2009, at his residence in Climax.
Mr. Provost was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He joined the Air Force when he was 18 years old and served during World War II and the Korean War. He moved to Bainbridge to become an airplane mechanic at the air base. After leaving the armed forces, he was employed by Engelhard in 1960, retiring from the industry after 24 years of service. He loved the outdoors and was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Hazel Byrd Provost; a son, Hormidas W. Provost Jr.; a sister, Pearl Kengerski, and a brother, Alfred Provost.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Betts of Climax; a sister, Doris Sleeper of West Springfield, Mass.; a brother, Eugene Provost of Mystic, Conn.; and four grandchildren.
Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
