Funeral services for Fred L. Sims Jr., 65, of Attapulgus, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hartzog officiating.
Interment will follow at Attapulgus Cemetery with Dennis Smith, Garrett Hartzog, Andy Glisson, Allen Glisson, Mark Lasseter, Danny Strickland and Adrain Hurst serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.
Mr. Sims was born April 19, 1943, in Bainbridge. He died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga.
Sims was the son of Fred L. Sims and Frankie Lee Gunn Sims. He grew up in Milledgeville, Ga., and graduated from Georgia Military Preparatory School, where he excelled in several sports, including football and baseball. He was a golf pro at the Milledgeville Country Club for several years, served in the U. S. Army, and retired with 41 years of service to Engelhard Corp. He was a member of Attapulgus Baptist Church. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelynn O. Sims.
Survivors include his son, Frank Sims of Bainbridge; two daughters, Gina Sims and Jan Sims, both of Attapulgus; his mother, Frankie Lee Sims of Milledgeville; his sister, Angela Sims Spillers and her husband, Larry, of Milledgeville; and three grandchildren, Aaron Talley of Attapulgus, John Franklin Sims Jr. of Bainbridge and Marla Sims of Bainbridge.
Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
