Funeral services for Annie Doris Florence, 82, of Bainbridge were held Saturday, Feb. 14, at Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Wells officiating.

Interment followed at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with William Florence, Ryan Florence, Lynward Florence Jr., Darryl Fountain and George Fountain serving as active pallbearers.

Born on March 23, 1926, in Vada, Ga., Mrs. Florence died on Feb. 8, 2009, at Memorial Manor after a month-long illness.

Mrs. Florence lived and worked on her grandfather’s farm from childhood to adulthood. She attended the Jordan Grove Elementary School, which met at the Jordan Grove M.B. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay W. Florence; her brother, Beuie Florence; and her son, Leon Florence.

Survivors include a sister, Victoria Jackson; three sons, Jack W. Florence, Alfred Florence and Lynward Florence; four daughters, Abbie Lee Glenn, Annie Pearl Burgess, Susan F. Griffin and Vickie F. McCoy; 17 grandchildren, including two of whom she raised as her own, Reginald Florence Sr. and Shirley Florence; 41 great-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
