Adeline Braik

Graveside services for Adeline Bledsoe Braik of LaGrange, Ga., who died Sunday, Dec. 21, at her residence, will be today, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. in the Olive Grove Primitive Baptist Church (Rock Pond) Cemetery in Iron City, Ga.

Born in Iron City, Mrs. Braik moved to LaGrange in 1990 after retiring as a supervisor with 40 years of service with the State of Florida. During her employment there, she is credited with creating the first foster care program for developmentally disabled children.

Mrs. Braik received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and her master’s in social work from St. Louis University. She also has the honor of being listed in “Who’s Who of American Women,” as well as being a published author.

Mrs. Braik was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange, where she helped with the program for the deaf by signing the church service and music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Braik.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlene Stone of LaGrange and Carolyn Jorgensen of Lanett, Ala.; a son, Ed Braik of LaGrange, and five grandchildren.

Striffler-Hamby Mortuary of LaGrange and Evans-Skipper Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
