Funeral services for Edith B. Austin, 95, of Attapulgus, will be today, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Gloria Walden officiating.
Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Adrian Austin, DeChris Austin, Michael Austin, Larry Carter, Jerald Carter, Terrance Carter, Jason Grimsley, Dextra Jones, Reginald Jones, JerRon Robinson, Nathaniel Smith and Tyrone Smith serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Caesar Austin, the Rev. James B. Austin Jr., David Edmond, DeWitt Edmond, James Edmond, Aloysious Evans, Curtis Holmes, Samuel Shaw, Ellis Smith, Willie C. Smith, Alfred Wade and George Washington.
Born in Attapulgus, Mrs. Austin died on Dec. 14, 2008, at Memorial Hospital. A resident of Attapulgus all her life, Mrs. Austin was educated in the Decatur County school system, was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Austin, and four children, Phyllis, Mary Louise, Irvin and Jonathan.
She is survived by four daughters, Geraldine A. Carter, Evelyn A. Tyler and Marilyn A. Wade, all of Attapulgus, and Shirley Shaw of Eustis, Fla.; two sons, the Rev. James B. Austin Jr. of Attapulgus and Caesar Austin, M.D. of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Lockett Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
