Abraham Meinema

Funeral services for Abraham “Abe” Meinema, 66, of Donalsonville, Ga., were held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Brinson, Ga., with the Revs. Kenny Johnson and Curtis Earnest officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy. Active pallbearers were the U.S. Navy, and honorary pallbearers were Lamar Jones, Benjamin Wynn, Joshua Wynn and Michael Jones.

Born in Delier, The Netherlands, on Aug. 28, 1942, Mr. Meinema died Wednesday, Dec. 10., 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Meinema retired in 1997 from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief. While in the Navy, he was a flight engineer and flew P-3 Orions. After retiring from the Navy, he worked with Boeing, where he served as superintendent over the Air Force One fleet maintenance crew. Mr. Meinema was a member of Grace Christian Reform Church in Kalamazoo, Mich., and attended the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Brinson, Ga.

Meinema’s survivors include his wife of 45 years, Bettie Jones Meinema of Donalsonville, Ga.; his mother, Wilma N. Meinema of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Kimberly Wynn of Bainbridge, Ga.; seven brothers, Bruin Meinema of The Netherlands, and Bert Meiriema, Louis Meinema, Art Meinema, Arend Meinema and Andrew Meinema, all of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Peter Meinema of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Rika Mulder of Canada and Coby DeBruin, of The Netherlands; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Assembly of God Church Building Fund, 3603 Spring Creek Rd. Donalsonville, GA 39845.
