Funeral services for Sidney M. Matthews, 74, of Brinson, Ga., were held Friday, Dec. 12, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Thornton and Tommy Willis officiating.
Interment followed at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with his nephews serving as active pallbearers.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 216 Bethany Church Road, Brinson, GA 39825.
Born in Decatur County, Mr. Matthews died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Matthews was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Matthews was a former supervisor with Georgia Palm Beach Window Company and retired as a supervisor from Flint River Mills. He was also a farmer and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Bernett Griner Matthews of Brinson, Ga.; his son, Allison Roy Matthews of Brinson; two daughters, Connie L. Matthews of Brinson and Sheila M. Ford and her husband, David, of Bainbridge; three brothers, James Matthews, Remus Matthews, both of Bainbridge, and Ralph “Doozie” Matthews of Fayetteville, Ga.; his sister, Julia M. Boyd of Brinson; eight grandchildren, Melissa Cannon, Dusty Cannon, Matthew Cannon, Tory Cannon, Alyson Matthews, Andru Matthews, Aiden Matthews and Ashton Matthews; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
