Hugh Coker

Funeral services for Hugh L. Coker, 79, of Whigham, Ga., were held Sunday, Nov. 30, in the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Fowler officiating.

Interment followed in Mizpah Cemetery in Pelham, Ga., with Jason Coker, Chelse Coker, W.C. Hauck, Linda Whigham and Gene Taylor serving as active pallbearers.

Mr. Coker was born in Grady County, Ga., and died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at his home.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a driver for the Gray County Board of Education, a farmer and a mechanic. He was a county commissioner for two years and a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Hurst Coker of Whigham; two sons, David L. Coker of Whigham and Mark Dwane Coker of Camilla, Ga.; a brother, Walter Coker of Pelham; a sister, Nadine Posey of Crawfordville, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clark Funeral Home of Cairo, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
