Gymnast-A-Cats big winners

The Bainbridge Gymnast-A-Cats, coached by Melynda Murkerson, won more than 100 medals and ribbons while competing against 15 teams from throughout Georgia in seven levels and numerous age divisions on Oct. 18 in Macon.

Murkerson said the Cats, as they are known all over the United States, were outstanding in their first meet of the year, pointing out that the Level 2 team, made up of nine girls who had never competed before, not only won individual awards, but also amazed their parents by taking first-place team honors.

On the Level 2 team are 5-year-old Lanie Birdsong, who won a second place, three fourth places, and second all-around; 6-year-old Lucy Sloan, who won a first place, three second places and second all-around, and 7-year-old Anna Lee Lockart, who won a first place, a third place, two sixth places and fourth all-around.

Also on the Level 2 Team were 7-year-old Emily Chambers, who won a first place, a third place, two fourth places and a third all-around; 7-year-old Gabby Hardee, who won two second places, a fifth place and first all-around, and 7-year-old Kate Vann, who won a first place, a fourth place, a sixth place and fifth all-around.

Completing the Level 2 team are 7-year-old Abigail Mills, who won a fourth place, a fifth place and eighth all-around; 7-year-old Sarah Kaylee Wynn, who won a first place, two third places and second all-around, and 10-year-old Abigail Wilson, who won first in all four events and first all around.

The first place Level 3 team was made up of Josie Deal, who won a first place, a second place, a fourth place, a fifth place and second all-around; Bree Powell, who won two first places, a second place and first all-around; Betsy Bodrey, won a first place, a third place, a seventh place and sixth all-around; Jessie Oliver, won a first place, two second places and second all-around, and Macey Roland, who won three first places and first all-around.

In Level 4 competition, Haylie Wilkinson won three first places, a second place and first all- around, and Ashlyn Ponder, won a first place, a third place, a fourth place and third all- around.

Level 5 gymnast Jeri Sloan won four second places and second all-around.

Competing in Level 6 were Kay Bush, who won a fourth place, a fifth place, a sixth place and fifth all-around and scored the mandatory points to advance to Level 7, and Sarah Oliver, who won a first place and 10th all-around.

The Level 7 team finished second overall with three gymnasts. Emily Perkins won a first place, a third place, a fourth place, a fifth place and third all around; Melissa Mills won two first places, a second place and second all around, and Rachel Oliver won two third places, two fourth places and fourth all around.

Leanna Flowers, competing in Level 8, won a first place, two third places, a fourth place and third all around.
