United Way: Individual donations welcomed

The 2008 United Way campaign is heading into its final month, and according to Campaign Chairperson Marjorie Mayfield, Decatur County residents have been generous when it comes to caring for their neighbors in need.
“Obviously, with unemployment rising in our community, and with prices increasing at the grocery store, we know it’s tough on families,” Mayfield said. “But we told area employers that the need would be great this year, and the message is getting out. While the need is great, our community is stepping up to meet the needs.”
Seventeen local companies have completed or currently have campaigns underway and individual donations continue to roll in.
According to Mayfield, this year’s campaign runs through the end of the year, but donations are always welcome. It’s a great time of the year to consider a tax-deductible gift, and to know that your dollars will be put to use right here in Decatur County.
“What we really want our neighbors to know is that they can make a donation on their own, if their employer doesn’t have a payroll deduction plan,” Mayfield said. “Making a contribution is easy. Simply write a check to United Way of Bainbridge-Decatur County, and mail it to P.O. Box 1805, Bainbridge, GA 39818.”
“All of our dollars go to support programs right here in Decatur County,” Mayfield said. “If you truly want to have an impact where you live or work, giving to the United Way is a great way to do that.”
