Teams do well at state meet

Coach Mandi O’Mara’s Region 1AAAA champion Bainbridge High School Lady Cats and Bearcats cross country teams turned in solid efforts at the state Class AAAA championship meet last Saturday in Carrollton.

The Lady Cats were led by sophomore April Thomas and senior Frankie Warren, who have been consistent performers all season. Thomas was 13th in the 196-runner girls field, completing the 3.1-mile course in a time of 20 minutes, 34.13 seconds, and Warren was 45th with a time of 21:50.94.

Other Lady Cats finishers were Lucie Reynolds, who was 147th with a time of 24:58.95; Anna Jordan, who was 151st with a time of 25:17.67; Ashten Oldaker, who was 172nd with a time of 26:47.17, and Brittany Williams, who was 180th with a time of 27:37.05.

The top Bearcats finisher in the 230-runner boys field was Cody Heard, who was 116th with a time of 18:57.28. Erick Juarez and Dylan Faircloth were 158th and 160th with times of 19:31.47 and 19:32.15.

Other Bainbridge finishers were Richie Hughes, who was 190th with a time of 20:12.75; Davey Richardson, who was 213th with a time of 21:25.04; Hunter Bulger, who was 219th with a time of 21:59.43, and Dustin Thompson, who was 220th with a time of 22:00.09.

O’Mara said she was very pleased with the progress her teams made during the season.

“Many of the teams we competed against in our regular season meets were top teams from Florida,” she said. “Some of them had won state championships in Florida, and we held our own.”
