Gibson and Martin Veterans Run winners

Myles Gibson of Donalsonville and Shana Martin of Bainbridge captured the overall and female championships at Saturday’s Veterans Day Classic 10,000-meter, 6.2-mile run.
Gibson, who finished in a time of 36 minutes, 59 seconds, said he thought the course was challenging.
“The course was a little rolling and hilly, and I really enjoyed it,” he said.
Martin, who is from Bainbridge and finished eighth overall, had a time of 45:07.
The second-place overall finisher and top Decatur County male finisher was Kyle Harris with a time of 39:32.
The top Decatur County female award went to Erika Pemberton of Bainbridge, who was 16th overall with a time of 49:20.
The overall male masters, over-40 finisher was Herb Wills of Tallahassee, Fla., who was third overall with a time of 40:49.
Wills, a former high school cross country coach and multiple winner of the Pine Run at International Paper Company’s Southlands Experiment Forest, was the top American finisher in the 1989 Boston Marathon.
The overall female over-40 finisher was Julie Clark of Tallahassee, Fla., with a time of 45:49. She was 10th overall.
Finishing fourth through seventh Saturday were Mike Kennett of Tallahassee, Fla., with a time of 41:18; Shannon McCook of Donalsonville with a time of 41:38; Mike Sims of Tallahassee, Fla., with a time of 41:40, and Chase Harris of Bainbridge with a time of 44:31.
