Thomas County Central High School athletic coordinator Mike Singletary apologized Saturday morning for an inappropriate score board screen video about Bainbridge High School head football coach Ed Pilcher and offensive coordinator Leonard Guyton that appeared following the Bearcats’ 13-7 Region 1AAAA overtime loss to the Central Yellow Jackets Friday night at Jackets’ Nest Stadium.
The apology was left on The Post-Searchlight sports editor Joe Crine’s voice mail.
“I would like desperately to apologize for what happened at the end of our ball game,” Singletary said. “It is absolutely unacceptable to put anything on our scoreboard that would bring disrespect to coach Ed Pilcher and his staff. Again I would like to apologize on behalf of our athletic department, our football team and our school.
“We let something slip by us that should have never happened. It is unacceptable, but I hope coach Pilcher, coach Guyton, Bainbridge High School and the city of Bainbridge will accept my sincere apology and promise nothing like that will ever happen again.”
Coach Pilcher declined to comment on the incident and BHS principal Tommie Howell talked about the relationship between the two schools.
“We have always had a strong positive relationship with Thomas County Central High School,” Howell said. “Bainbridge High School will continue to strive for that positive relationship to continue.”
