Learning to shop, calculate
Students in Renee Comerford’s fifth-grade class at West Bainbridge Elementary School recently went shopping in the classroom as part of their decimals unit. As a way to relate classroom work to real life, students were given a check for $127.35 and a Kmart sales paper. Students were required to purchase at least three items and complete their receipts. Students were required to calculate the subtotal, tax, total and change.
