Armed robbers arrested

Three Hispanic men where arrested Friday evening in connection with an armed robbery involving a handgun.
According to incident reports, Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Demetric Stubbs responded to a residence on Helen Street in Bainbridge shortly after 7 p.m.
When he arrived, witnesses told him three Hispanic males pulled up to a residence and approach another Hispanic male at the home. The driver of the vehicle, Eleazar Saldivar Guzman, 34, of 618 Calhoun St., Bainbridge, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the man and followed him into the house.
The witness stated the men came back out of the house, at which time the male kicked the gun out of the hand of Guzman. Guzman and the man began fighting in the yard.
One of the three robbers, Rogelio Ortiz, 37, of Camilla, Ga., picked up the gun and shot towards the man, missing as the bullet hit the ground.
Ortiz, Guzman and the third robber, Fidercio Lerma Machuca of 708 Old Pelham Road, Bainbridge, jumped on the male as he tried to flee and began beating him.
The three robbers then fled in a vehicle.
The men were later pulled over by Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputy Efrain Beltran near Mills and Whigham Dairy roads. A gun matching the description of the one used in the robbery was found 25 to 30 feet from the car, according to the report. Several open alcoholic beverages were also found in the vehicle.
All three men where arrested.
Guzman was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, open container, obstruction and DUI; Machuca was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and open container; and Ortiz was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and open container.
Grady County kidnapping and manhuntA Decatur County Sheriff’s Office captain provided assistance to law enforcement in Grady County on Sunday.
DCSO Capt. Michael Logue worked with the Apalachee Correctional Institute dog tracking team in Grady County where police were searching for a Hispanic man involved in the kidnapping of a juvenile.
Late Sunday afternoon, Cairo police responded to a residence where they learned a man wearing a mask on his head had come into the home, placed a female juvenile in handcuffs and forced her outside and into a car.
Four other children ranging in age from 1 to 9 were at home during the incident. The eldest male child called the police.
Drag marks were visible in the yard, according to incident reports.
Several citizens in the area called E-911 and reported seeing the young female struggling to get out of the vehicle.
Officers quickly came upon the car on Lower Cairo Road in Grady County where officers witnessed the juvenile being forced up against the vehicle by the male.
The kidnapper, identified by the juvenile as Julio Jemenez, fled into the wooded area as police arrived.
The juvenile, who was not hurt during the ordeal, told police she had previously worked with Jemenez.
The Cairo Police Department, Grady County Sheriff’s Office, Thomasville Police Department and Logue with DCSO helped search for Jemenez late into the night on Sunday.
The Georgia State Patrol helicopter along with tracking dogs from the Apalachee Correctional Institute out of Sneads, Fla., and Thomasville aided in tracking the suspect, who has yet to be located.
Warrants were taken on Jemenez for burglary (home invasion), kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of tools to commit a crime, cruelty to children in the third degree (four counts) and one count of cruelty to children in the second degree.
Jemenez is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds.
