Funeral services for Ruth Annette McLeod, 78, of South Americus, Ga., will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Aldridge Funeral Home of Americus with the Rev. Margaret Blivens officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Harold Fincher, Hal Hines, Stephen Mims, Thomas Mims, Jose Castro, John Scally, Brett Scally and Dr. T.R. Shantha serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Oz Coleman, Bob Schlink, Herman Quinones, Jimmy S. Humphries and Paul Prescott.
The family will receive friends at the family residence at 633 Hwy. 49; South Americus.
Mrs. McLeod was born in Bainbridge, Ga., and died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. She attended Georgia Southwestern College, Valdosta State and Georgia’s Teacher’s College in Statesboro. She taught school for many years in Decatur County, Ga. After her marriage, she was a substitute teacher in the Americus and Sumter County and Lee County school systems. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Americus where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of the Woman’s Literary Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Everette McLeod Jr., and a daughter, Janice Ruth.
She is survived by her four daughters, Victoria Kay McLeod Flom, Tommie Anne McLeod, Sadie McLeod Taylor and Naomi McLeod Mims; six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Also as per the families request, concluding the services at the cemetery friends are invited to attend a reception at the Windsor Hotel in Americus.
