Sprint on the Flint returns for its second year at the Earle May Boat Basin October 7, where triathletes can compete individually or in a relay option.

Sprint on the Flint was designed with Bainbridge’s facilities in mind, marketing and events coordinator, Valerie Faircloth explains. “It is a great beginner’s triathlon. A lot of people are unsure about the swimming part when they begin, but there are parts of this swimming where you can stand up. We believe that helps them feel more secure.”

Last year’s triathlon was a great success with more than 120 participants. “The people who came from out of town were more than impressed with our facilities,” Faircloth said. She hopes they will return again to compete in this year’s.

The course will begin on the Flint River and be the exact same as last year. Early registration for individuals ends September 23 and costs $55. The two to three people relay option early registration ended August 31, but teams can still sign up for late registration through the day of the race for $90. Individuals who sign up after the September 23 will be charged $75.

Georgia Multisports have recommended that 15 be the minimum age to participate, however if a parent believes their child is capable of competing at this level or has seen their child compete in a triathlon before and is younger than 15, they are able to give their permission and the Recreation Authority will evaluate the runner and agree.

Each contestant will receive a piece of pizza and a beer courtesy of the main sponsor, Uncle Bill’s Pizzeria. Everyone also receives a finishing medal, but the top three male and females in each heat will get an award.

As of Friday, 70 people have pre-registered. People are still able to pre-register up to 24 hours before the race when they pick up their running bag. People can register at www.active.com or playbainbridge.com.
