Mothers of football players can experience the practice of their kids at the Atlanta Falcons clinic in Bainbridge on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

The moms of Bainbridge will have the chance to take to the field on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and freshen up on their football knowledge and technique.

The Atlanta Falcons in a partnership with Kids & Pros will be hosting a moms only clinic from 6-9 p.m. at Bainbridge High School.

“We gather moms and talk to them about safety and some X’s and O’s,” event helper Terri Grunduski said. “We teach them how to recognize concussions and to fit the equipment.”

The clinic is the first of eight that the Falcons will be hosting throughout Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Moms will spend some time in a classroom setting learning about safety and concussions before taking to the field and practicing correct talking techniques.

“It lets them get a feel for what its like,” former Falcon and USA football master trainer Buddy Curry said. “You want to hit with the front part of the shoulder and we show the drills we use to teach that.”

The clinic is free to attend, but moms that are interested have to sign up in advance at http://atlantafalcons.com/momsclinic. Registration is on a first-come, first-service basis and there are 300 available spots for the Bainbridge clinic.

“The NFL made this initiative because moms are the decision makers,” Curry said. “When it comes to safety moms are the ones the most tied in.”

Instructors at the clinic include Curry as well as former Falcons Bobby Butler and Robert Moore. Former FSU quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Charlie Ward will also join them at the Bainbridge clinic as a guest coach.

“We’ve done over 200 clinics and the moms’ are by far the most energetic,” Curry said.

The goal of the clinic according to Curry is for moms to get an understanding of proper tackling techniques and overall safety so that they can in turn hold their kids’ coaches accountable.

Dinner will be provided to the moms in attendance and they are encouraged to leave their spouses and kids at home as this is an event only for moms.
