Softball teams honored at banquet
Some of the highlights of Thursday night’s annual Bainbridge Lady Cats softball banquet included the honoring of high school varsity catcher Kristen Bennett as an all-region performer, LaShae Williams as the best all-around junior varsity player and Macayla Kirkland as the most improved middle-school player.
The banquet, held at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria, began with the presentation of middle school awards by coach Marie Jones.
Bennett, who batted .406 for coach Eugene Singletary’s Lady Cats, had a .465 on base percentage. She had 26 hits in 71 plate appearances, and finished with 19 singles, six doubles and one home run.
Caitlin Cato won the varsity “Iron Lady Award” for her strong pitching and dedication to the team. Varsity Bearcat Awards for great hustle and desire went to Diamond Bouie, Avis Jackson and Briana Wade.
High scholastic average awards went to Diamond Bouie with a 90.4 grade-point average, Khadeeijah Cooper with a 91.4, Caitlin Cato with a 94 and and Anna Barber with a 95.5.
Sportsmanship awards went to varsity players Jocelyn Beard, Tiffany Hand and Natasha Green.
Coach April Powell’s junior-varsity Lady Cats were recognised for winning the Lady Cats Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament,
Junior varsity awards went to Brittany Moore for highest batting average, LaShae Williams for best all-around player, Summer Kirkland for most improved infielder and Meagan Vaughn for most RBIs.
Grace McIntosh was honored for having the highest batting average for coach Marie Brown’s middle-school Lady Cats.
Macayla Kirkland received the most-improved middle-school player award, Tori Sprenkle received the middle-school coaches’ award, Janisha Perkins received the middle-school hustle award and Taylor Swanner received the middle-school most improved infielder award.
