Firehouse Art Gallery plans to display new summer collection

The Firehouse Art Gallery is rotating its collection to a summer theme next Friday.

Every four months, the Firehouse Art Gallery downtown changes its art collection to keep it fresh, according to the gallery’s Executive Director Jessica Polsky. Next Friday, the display will rotate to the “Shades of Summer” collection.

Firehouse Art Curator Mary Ellen Free set the theme and wants artists to be inspired by their feelings and memories during summer.

“I’m looking for a color scheme and images that remind people of spring and summer,” Free said. “This show will be a lot brighter and more colorful for the summer.”

The gallery showcases various art mediums, and gallery-goers can expect to see paintings, sculptures, photographs and even paper art in the new collection. The summer collection is the first time the Firehouse Art Gallery will showcase sculpture. There are six new artists showcased at the gallery for the first time.

The gallery is having an opening night event for the new art Friday, June 23. The event will be open to the public from six p.m. to seven p.m. The gallery is offering wine and hors d’oeuvres to guests. The gallery will have artists present to interact with guests.

“We just want people to come,” Executive Director Polsky said. “We’ll have music, food, drink, and just celebrate this new collection.
