Saniya Brown makes history for Bainbridge Wrestling Program

In a historic achievement for Bainbridge High School, Saniya Brown secured third place at the Georgia High School Association Girls State Championship, becoming the first female wrestler from the school to place at the state tournament since its inception in 2021. With tenacity and resolve, Brown showcased her exceptional skills on the mat, battling back from a quarterfinal defeat and rattling off two straight victories to place third.  Her journey to the podium was highlighted by unwavering perseverance, capturing the spirit of resilience and dedication.

“Saniya displayed true Bearcat spirit in the state competition,” said Bainbridge head wrestling coach Jacob Floyd. “After winning her first match, she faced a setback but fought her way back by winning three matches. Her final match for third place was against the same opponent she lost to before. Ultimately placing third in the state for her weight class,” he said. “She is now number three in the entire girls wrestling for Georgia.”

Brown’s remarkable accomplishment not only defines her individual talent but also signifies a milestone for Bainbridge High School’s wrestling program. Her success paves the way for aspiring female wrestlers, empowering them to pursue their dreams and break new ground.
