Joyce Culverson Day of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away on January 11, 2025.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jean Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Joyce was born on January 6, 1956, to Reverend Calvin Thomas and Louise Stokes Culverson. She is preceded in death by her father, Reverend Calvin Thomas Culverson; her uncle, Leon Culverson; and her aunt, Lynette Culverson Powell.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Day. In addition to Dennis, Joyce is survived by her mother, Louise Stokes Culverson; her children, Cal Day (MaraDare) and Cara Barber (Austin); 5 grandchildren, Grayson Anne Day, Anna Cate Day, Brooks Barber, Bryson Barber, and Brentlee Barber; her brothers, Darius Culverson (Rosiland) and Bobby Culverson (Alethea); her sisters, Brenda Gardner (Windell) and Linda Croom (Kent); special aunts and uncles, Lawrence & Joyce Culverson and Rose Culverson; and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce married Dennis Day on December 16, 1972. They began their life together and built a loving family and were married for 52 years. Joyce loved her family deeply and was the quintessential homemaker.
Joyce was known as Joy to her family but to her grandchildren she was GrandJoy. This name could not be more fitting because she derived “Grand Joy” from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. From sitting bundled up on the sideline of a game to teaching her grandchildren to make her famous Brunswick stew, Joyce was her happiest.
Joyce loved to be in the kitchen. Every meal was an important event. A simple one was just as important to her as an elegant Thanksgiving dinner. She did not know how to cook for a few. Anytime Joyce cooked a meal there was enough for an army.
Joy leaves behind a legacy of the importance of family, unconditional love for family and friends, and her unwavering faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
