Members of the Bainbridge Rotary Club gathered at the Kirbo Center on Tuesday afternoon for this week’s meeting. The guest speakers of the day were Austin Stuckey and Janis Tamargo with the Decatur County Health Department.

Stuckey spoke about the various services and programs offered by the Health Department, focusing on women’s health services, in line with this month being Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“Our main focus is women’s health, that’s probably the biggest thing we do,” Stuckey said. “One program that branches off from that is our breast and cervical cancer program, and that program is specific to a certain group of women. It’s usually our low-income, no insurance, and there’s a certain threshold they have to meet, that we offer a full annual exam for them.”

She added that they offer pap smears and mammograms, both for those with and without insurance.

After Stuckey, Tamargo spoke about the State of Georgia’s cancer aid program.

“Essentially, if you get a diagnosis of either breast or cervical cancer, the State of Georgia has a specific Medicaid that helps specifically with that,” she explained.

After the two had finished speaking about these programs, they took questions from the audience.
